520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc Two marine derived fungi were isolated from Red sea soft coral Sarcophyton ehrenbergi,
namely, Aspergillus flavus and A. nomius. These fungi were cultured using solid rice media.
Chromatographic studies on different extracts, resulted in isolation of 15 compounds. These
compounds were classified according to their chemical nature into six categories: (1) pyrones,
(2) cyclodepsipeptides, (3) diketopiperazines, (4) indoles, (5) benzo-furanones (6) steroids,
using different tools of spectroscopic techniques. Furthermore, these compounds were
confirmed by LC-MS/MS. Regarding the bioactivities of the extracts and the isolated
compounds, two compounds scopularides A & B from A. flavus showed antifungal, anti-H.
pylori and anti -TB activities
. Scopularide A showed potent antifungal, anti-H- pylori activities
while scopularide B revealed potent activity only against Candida albicans and H- pylori.
Moreover, the total extract of A. flavus showed larvicidal activity due to the presence of these
two scopularides. The larvicidal and antimicrobial activities were confirmed by carrying out
in-silico molecular docking against Candida albicans, A. niger, and also against certain
biochemical enzymes to identify the mode of action by which these tested samples exerts their
activity.
