Dissertation note: Thesis (M.S.)-Cairo university, Faculty of oral and dental medicine, 2007. Summary: Success in wearing a complete denture depends upon many factors including patient motivation and neuromuscular control as well as other technical considerations . Since the adaptation to a complete denture is a complex process , thus when a complete denture is replaced , the greater the difference between the new and old one , the greater will be the demand upon the patient’s powers of adaptation. So, it is desirable , especially for elderly patients , to provide replacement complete dentures similar in most respects to those to which the patients are accustomed . For elderly patients , development of new skills and modification of old ones both presented problems. Therefore, the treatment of elderly patients to provide replacement complete dentures should minimize the need for the patients to adapt to their uses . This is best achieved by provision of new dentures thatSummary: reproduced as many as possible of the features of the existing dentures , with slight alterations limited to those aspects of the old complete dentures that were causing problems. The copy denture technique facilitated the replication of the good features of the existing complete dentures. The duplication technique is a well recognized method for replacing complete dentures. The advantages claimed for this technique are that, the patients adapt more easily to their new complete dentures and the number of treatment visits is reduced ( Davis and Watson, 1993, and Davis, 1994 ) . The use of the denture copying technique is a sensible and effective treatment strategy for elderly patients , or those who are unlikely to develop good muscular adaptation to the conventional complete dentures due to neurological impairmentز
