520 3 _aChronobiology is the scientific study of biologic rhythms and their underlying mechanisms. Application of the principles of chronobiology may help in disease prevention, aid in early diagnosis and treatment, and reduce overall health care costs. Chronopharmacokinetic studies have been reported for many drugs in an attempt to explain chronopharmacological phenomena and demonstrate that the time of administration is a possible factor of variation in the pharmacokinetics of a drug. Chronotherapeutics is defined as a treatment system where the in-vivo drug availability has been timed in accordance to cyclic rhythms of drug related biological phenomena to create maximum benefit minimizing harm. A number of common diseases are affected by chronobiology. Such diseases include angina, rheumatoid arthritis, allergic rhinitis, hypertension and cancer.
