This thesis is concerned with the quantitative determination of some drugs containing carboxylic acid derivatives; namely Valaciclovir Hydrochloride and Trimebutine Maleate in their pure powdered form, in presence of their degradation products and application on pharmaceutical formulations.
In this thesis; different analytical techniques were adopted, namely, UV-spectrophotometric, visible spectrophotometric, chromatographic and electrochemical methods for the determination of the previously mentioned compounds in their pure powder, laboratory prepared mixtures and pharmaceutical formulations.
In part I; General introduction and literature review of valaciclovir hydrochloride (VAL) and its active metabolite aciclovir (ACI) were described. This part described also the quantitative determination of VAL in pure form or dosage form using UV-spectrophotometry including six methods namely, dual wavelength (DW), induced dual wavelength (IDW), ratio difference (RD), constant center coupled with spectrum subtraction spectrophotometric method (CC-SS), the first derivative of the ratio spectra (DD1) and mean centering of ratio spectra (MCR), visible-spectrophotometric method, chromatographic (RP-UPLC method and TLC-densitometry) methods and electrochemical method (ISE).
In part II; General introduction and literature review of trimebutine maleate (TM) were described. Then different analytical methods were described for the determination of the studied drugs in their pure form or dosage form including four spectrophotometric methods namely, dual wavelength (DW), second derivative (D2), ratio difference (RD) and constant center coupled with spectrum subtraction spectrophotometric method (CC-SS) and chromatographic (RP-HPLC and TLC-densitometry) methods.
